Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on August 28, 1963 still sends shock waves through the nation.

Delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, King proclaimed his dreams of a world where people of all races could come together as one.

Forty-eight years later, he has received his own memorial in Washington D.C., joining faces of the United States of America such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

His speech still resonates with such a powerful message that no matter where you’ve come from, how you were raised, you can understand why a man felt so deeply about bringing together all the people in one nation.

This memorial will be another amazing addition to the deep history of the United States.

The project cost around $120 million, but if it was possible I would have contributed out of my personal pocket to contribute to this piece.

The construction for this project began in the fall of 2009.

The memorial is not only an addition to African-American history, but it is a staple in the history of the nation. It stands as a reminder of an era in which we decided that segregation is not okay.

King was assassinated on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968.

King’s memorial is the first major memorial along the National Mall to be dedicated to an African-American, and the first to a non-president.

The centerpiece of the memorial will be the “Stone of Hope,” a 30-foot statue of King, with a wall that will be inscribed with excerpts of his sermons and public addresses.

The memorial opened to the public on Aug. 22, however, the actual dedication with be on Aug. 28, the 48th anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech.
