Smokers have rights too

Granted nobody, not even smokers, enjoy having smoke in their face while they are eating.

Not smoking in restaurants makes sense.

But there gets to be a point where there is just too much restriction.

In some areas residents are not allowed to smoke in their own apartments. If smokers want to smoke in a place that they are paying to live then there is no reason someone should be able to tell them not to.

Not everyone smokes, but at what point is giving none smokers rights is it taking away the rights of the smokers?

Telling someone they cant smoke in their own home is close to that line, if not crossing it.

Some places like theme parks have smoking areas to keep the smoke away from the people who don’t and help everyone co-exist.

There is no problem with that those are confined areas where many people are going to have a good time.

On the other hand in Burbank it is illegal to smoke on city owned property that is not designated as a smoking area.

According the Artical 7 of the Second Hand Smoking Ordinance this includes “City facilities and parks: Smoking is prohibited in all enclosed and non-enclosed

areas of any facility owned, leased, or operated by the City of Burbank and accessible to the general public as determined by the property lines of such facility.”

It also states, “This prohibition applies to the sidewalks along public and private streets within and around the perimeter of the area defined in Subsection 1.”

So not only can you not smoke at a park, but if you are standing outside of your house smoking you are breaking the law.

Enough is enough.

While certain restrictions are there to help keep everyone happy, there is a point where it is way too much.

There is no reason why Smokers shouldn’t have the right to smoke in their own home or on a public or privet street sidewalk.
