Women’s tennis defeats Mt. SAC

The women’s tennis team played a singles and doubles match Thursday against Mt. San Antonio College, winning 8-1. Cerritos also faced San Diego Mesa on Friday, winning 7-2.

It was a South Coast Conference win for Cerritos beating the Mounties, 8-1, in matches including both singles and doubles.

“We did pretty good, we just have to continue to get ready for state,” said coach Rosanna Chatman after the win.

Cerritos won five out of six matches in the singles matchup and also sweeping the doubles matches, winning all three.

Sophmore Shamariah Derojas was dominant in her singles match winning 6-1, 6-0 over Elle Hall of Mt. San Antonio.

Second year player Gabriele Diaz was the lone player with the loss for Cerritos losing 6-3, 6-0.

“I made a lot of mistakes in the match,” Diaz said about her performance in the game.

Diaz did bounce back in the doubles match winning along with teammate Christina Nguyen.

The doubles matches were a breeze for the Falcons as they flew by Mt. SAC, winning 6-1, 6-2 in one match, 6-2, 6-4 in another match and 6-1, 6-2 in the last match.

Following up on the Cerritos win, the Falcons played a match on Friday against San Diego Mesa College winning, 7-2.

With the win Cerritos has now won its sixth game in a row and are now 6-2 on the season.

The Falcons won 4-2, in the single matches and swept all three double matches with the overall total being 7-2.

Two matches went for default one in the singles match and the other in the doubles match.

Samantha Nadres was the top performer for Cerritos winning 6-4, 7-6, and winning in the doubles match along with teammate Michelle Yi.
