The Cerritos College men’s tennis team beat  Mt. San Antonio College, 5-4, in a South Coast Conference match last Tuesday.

Cerritos won four of six matches in the singles play and dropped two of three in the doubles matches.

With the win, Cerritos is now 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Sophomore Jason Wall had the best performance in singles play, winning in two sets, 6-0, 6-1.

“I played really well, hit the ball well and my movement on the court was good,” Wall said.

Nick Bote and David Sim were the only losers in the singles matches.

In the doubles matches, the only win for Cerritos came from the duo of Jason Wall and Doug Edwards, winning 6-0, 6-1.

They beat the combination of Jose Quiros and Mark Peralta of Mt. SAC.

Quiros said, “The opponent was serving hard and put a lot of pressure on the serve.”

The win was important because if Cerritos did not get a win in the doubles match the teams would have finished in a tied.

“We made sure we stayed focused even after winning the first set, because it is really easy to get distracted and lose focus,” Wall said.

The Falcons did come close to winning a second doubles match, but came up short losing 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

Sophmores Nik Bote and Carlos Gomez played the match against Ryan Daza and Ian Ramirez of Mt. SAC.

“It was a long match, played well during pressure points, but it was not enough,” Gomez said about the match.

The next match for Cerritos is Tuesday against Victor Valley College at 2 p.m.
