Swimming owes Macias for success

The Cerritos swimming team owes half of its success to head coach Sergio Macias.

Since Macias has been head coach for Cerritos, he has a 106-24 record and has led both the women’s swimming and water polo team to the championship this past season.

Many records have been broken while Macias has been head coach such as winning 22 games in a row, and motivated his team enough to break five school records.

“The coaching staff has high expectations on all swimmers, and the hard work has paid off,” Macias said about the past season.

Freshman swimmer Gina Kim has enjoyed swimming for Macias and looks forward to next season.

“Macias is a really good coach, and so dedicated to the whole team. He spends a lot of his time with us,” Kim said.

Freshman swimmer Natalie Peng has also enjoyed her time while being coached under Macias.

Under Macias, Peng owns three individual school records and five relay records. While Kim has five records in the relay races.

“Macias sets high expectations for us because he knows that we have a lot of potential, and he pushes us to the limit,” Peng said.

“Macias also taught us that weakness is not accepted and we have to overcome whatever comes our way,” Peng added.

Although, the season is over it is never too early to not think about next season.

“I hope the success carries over to both sports, we have to work harder to defend titles in both sports,” Macias mentioned about next season.
