A game tying homerun by Natalie Garcia rallies the Cerritos College softball team to a 5-3 non conference win over Palomar on Wednesday at Nancy Kelly field.

With the team losing 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning, it was the right fielder Garcia’s blast to left centerfield that started a four-run inning to break the game wide open.

“I was really excited to bring the team back,” Garcia said.

The homerun was just the spark that was needed to get the Falcons’ offense rolling again.

Freshman center fielder Samantha Garcia followed the homerun with a walk and a stolen base to end up on second base.

With two outs already recorded in the inning, the Falcons came up with two clutch hits as first baseman Ashley Ventura singled home Garcia and second baseman Lindsey Marquez followed with an RBI double to bring home Ventura to increase their lead by two.

The final fifth run was scored off the speed of Marquez when she was able to steal third and home off of pass balls from Palomar’s pitcher.

“It seemed like (Palomar) took care of business,” head coach Kodee Murray said about her teams four run inning breakthrough.

The Falcons ended up with six overall hits in their winning effort to increase the teams record to 7-1 on the year.

“We just feed off each other and pick each other up,” Marquez said “we started to hit our pitches and not her junk.”

On the defensive side, the pitching by Hillary Perez-Ashley kept the Falcons within striking distance the whole game.

She allowed eight hits, and a homerun in the top of the 7th which was the only earned run she allowed in the victory to raise her record to 5-0 on the season.

The Falcons will next face Los Angeles Harbor on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Nancy Kelly field.
