The women’s soccer team opened its 2010 season with a pair of victories at the 7th Annual Sea Breeze Women’s Soccer Tournament held in Oxnard.
The Falcons are currently ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA National Community College Rankings, and proved it on the field this past weekend.
“We played well as a team, especially on defense,” head coach Ruben Gonzalez said. “I think because we have more experience than we’ve had in the past, the sophomores were able to help the freshmen during the games.”
The first game was played on Saturday against the Taft College Cougars, where the Falcons won 1-0, considering they out shot their opponents 27-0.
The lone goal came in the first half when midfielder Tatiana Cortes scored off Viridiana Ortega’s cross pass. Taft did not cross the midfield line throughout the game.
On Sunday, the Falcons defeated the Antelope Valley Marauders 5-0. Cortes, again, was on point by adding two goals. Liliana Leos, Elizabeth Vazquez and Alexis Clavesilla also contributed by scoring during the match.
