Women’s tennis claims defeat over Palomar

Not winning any of its matches, the Cerritos College women’s tennis team lost, 9-0, in its home game against Palomar College on Friday, March 2.

Amy Peterson said, “It wasn’t that difficult. I think the person I played was at my level, I just kept making mistakes.”

She came up on 4-6 on the first set, but only managed 2-6 on the second set.

Peterson said she would improve more on “getting the balls in [because] I kept hitting out.”

Other members of the women’s tennis team did not fare so well either.

Sophomores Dominique Luna and Hui You Sohn both scored 0-6 in both of their sets.

Undecided major, Mandi Jenkins came in at 1-6 in her first set and 0-6 in her second.

She said, “I need to give myself a margin of error because I tend not to do that and I just hit the ball and the ball will be real close to the line.”

Freshman Nancy Audetat won a couple of games coming in at 2-6 but lost the second set, 0-6.

Psychology major Kim Diaz managed 3-6 on her first set.

She said about her opponent, “She had hard hits and, for me, I had to be on guard.”

Diaz had 2-6 on her second set and said she has to be more consistent and run faster when going after the ball.

The Falcons will go on to play in their next home game against Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m.

This will be the second game Cerritos has played against the Mounties after losing 9-0 on February 21.
