Despite many fouls, and free throws, with their hard teamwork, good communication and strong dedication, the Cerritos College Men’s basketball team took the win Friday night, on January 31st against El Camino-Compton Center winning at 94-83.
The Falcons took a while to get into the game, which allowed the opposing team to take the first points, but they quickly caught up, leading the first half 49-45.
The Falcons got their first free throw as early as 2 minutes into the game.
Sophomore Kevin Conrad, guard for the Falcons said. “I think we did really well shooting the ball, i mean we still have things to work on, but I know we are going to get better.”
Sophomore Victor Jones, also guard for the Falcons, added, “I think we performed well, we had a couple missed cues, so it was a little sloppy but at the end of the day we got it done.”
Jones feels that it was tough going again ECC, “Talent-wise they were easy, but you know, they were playing physical and dirty, and they made it a tough game, tougher than it should have been.”
Head coach, Russ May, said the team struggled early in the game in making decisions, and taking care of the ball. May went on to say that for his team to improve the men would have to learn from mistakes and appreciate each other a bit more.
Sophomore Jon Benson, Forward, got injured by twisting his ankle during the second half of the game. The nurses quickly rushed to the court to help Benson get up to walk him over to take a seat so they could wrap his twisted ankle.
Benson’s status injury, according to coach May, “Benson will be fine, he just twisted his ankle a little bit, so he will be all ready to go next week.” The injury was nothing major according to May.
Coach May said their next game will be a much different game, and they will prepare by practicing and going over the rules defensively to get ready for their tough opponents.
The Cerritos Falcons will have their next home game on February 7th at 7 p.m., against Los Angeles Southwest college.
