Cerritos emerges to the win

The Falcons had a rough start in the third game of the season against the Citrus College Owls, but ended the game with a big bang on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Kincaid Field.

During the first three innings the Owls took the lead (0-6).

Citrus College scored four runs in the first inning against pitcher Valentine Flores-Gomez, creating a small advantage later scoring two more in the third inning putting the score at Citrus 6 and Cerritos 0.

After three innings of defeat with Citrus still in the lead, Cerritos upped their defense and didn’t let Citrus score another run for the remainder of the game.

The Falcons later made a comeback by making a total of 12 runs by the 7th inning.

Cerritos will have their next game at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 5 against the Ventura College Pirates.

“We started off slow but we got it going,” said pitcher Andrew Bueno.

He added that Cerritos needed to “Just get off to a better start in the beginning of the game”.

Cerritos scored three runs in the 4th inning with the score left at 6 to 3, Citrus still in the lead with a double.

Cerritos scored eight runs in the 7th inning, basically doubling the score of the game and putting the game out of reach (6-12).

They finished the game by scoring two more runs in the last two innings taking the win for the Cerritos Falcons.

Victor Guadalupe, third basemen, hit the team’s first home run of the season in the 6th inning. He described the feeling with just one simple word “surreal”.

The team and head coach, Ken Gaylord, hopes to take their team to the top and continues to improve in future games.
