Men’s tennis extend wining streak to five

The Falcons played their first conference game of the season at home and won 9-0.

Men’s tennis extended their winning streak to five as they cruised against Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday, Feb.24.

The Falcons next game is at home against El Camino College. It will be their second conference game in the season.

The men’s tennis team record is 9-1 on the season and they are 1-0 in conference play.

The men started off with playing singles first.

  • No.1 singles Amadi Kagoma (Cerritos) defeated Erik Martinez (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-4, 6-2.
  • No.2 singles Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cerritos) defeated Aron Hayes (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-1, 6-2.
  • No.3 singles Agustin Lombardi (Cerritos) defeated Kenny Simmons (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-3, 6-2.
  • No.4 singles Mathieu David (Cerritos) defeated Adrian Perelta (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-2, 6-4.
  • No.5 singles Henry Ayesiga (Cerritos) defeated Kimlong Phan (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-1, 6-2.
  • No.6 singles Mark Antoniuk (Cerritos) defeated Jay Acosta (Mt. SAC) with the score of 6-0, 6-4.

The men took advantage of singles and went up 6-0. They looked for the shutout in doubles.

  • No.1 doubles Amadi Kagoma/ Henry Ayesiga defeated Erik Martinez/ Kenny Simmons 9-8 winning in a tiebreaker.
  • No.2 doubles Agustin Lombardi/ Mark Antoniuk defeated Aron Hayes/ Kimlong Phan with the score of 9-7.
  • No.3 doubles Mathieu David/ Milos Zoric defeated Adrian Peralta/ K. Sakata with the score of 8-2.

Head coach Alvin Kim said, “We really need to take it easy the next couple of days because we have a big match on Friday against Mesa (San Diego Mesa).”

He added, “The next game El Camino is down this year [so] we aren’t expecting it to be much difficult.”
Henry Ayesiga, kinesiology major, said “I want to say the match was easy but overall I think it was fair and I managed to win,”

He added, “For now on in the season [it] isn’t going to be easy so we will be ready.”

Mark Antoniuk said “It was a good match, it was tough in doubles, [but] coach helped us mentally to get our focus back.”

He added, “We are going to play much better than we did today because Friday is a big game.”
