Men’s Tennis lose a close match against Mesa

The men’s tennis streak got snapped by San Diego Mesa on Feb. 27. The Falcons were on a 7 game wining streak as they were defeated in a close match losing 4-5. Cerritos is now 10-2 in season.

The Falcon’s next game is on Mar. 6 away at Ventura.

Cerritos played all 6 singles matches first and look to take the edge in the game.

  • No.1 singles Amadi Kagoma (Cerritos) defeated Scott Wheeler (SDM) 6-2, 6-0.
  • No.2 singlesCorentin Haener (SDM) defeated Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cerritos), 7-6(4), 6-4.
  • No.3 singles Kimo Barrere (SDM) defeated Mark Antoniuk (Cerritos), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
  • No.4 singles Agustin Lombardi (Cerritos) defeated Tyler Luck (SDM), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
  • No.5 singles Felippo Bedin (SDM) defeated Henry Ayesiga (Cerritos), 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
  • No.6 singles Mathieu David (Cerritos) defeated Carlos Reyes (SDM), 6-2, 6-4.

The Falcons were tied up in singles at 3-3 a piece.

Looking to snatch this tough win Cerritos had to win 2 out of the 3 doubles match to keep the wining streak alive.

  • No.1 doubles Amadi Kagoma/ Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cerritos) defeated Luka Stanivukovich/ Scott Wheeler (SDM) 8-3.
  • Tyler Luck/ Kimo Barrere (SDM) defeated Mark Antoniuk/ Agustin Lombardi (Cerritos) 8-2.
  • Felippo Bedin/ Corentin Haener (SDM) defeated Mathieu David/ Milos Zoric (Cerritos) 9-7. this game was the last game deciding weather the Falcons will win but losing a couple of points decided the game.

Head coach Alvin Kim “We were in the match but in the end it came down to a couple of points,”

He added, “Great day to have because we have to practice four days in a row and get ready for this next match.”

Amadi Kagoma, a sociology major, said “I think it was one of the best matches we played. I think everyone played well but hopefully in the playoffs we can beat them (San Diego Mesa).”

She added, “We only have one game next week against Ventura they are a very good team they just play like Mesa so we can hopefully we can learn from this and practice for next weeks game.”
