Women’s tennis getting back on track

After two close wins, the Cerritos College women’s tennis team seem to be getting back on track.

The women beat Santa Monica 9-0, on Friday, March 25.

Head coach Alvin Kim said, “The Fresno trip to Mt. SAC took a lot out of the group, players were literally sick and tired.”

This was the women’s second back-to-back game in two weeks.

With their score against Mt. SAC 5-4 which they believe is due to their line up changes and their 5-4 win against El Camino, it was not hard to see the women were tired.

This was the first time in their previous three match ups that they swept the competition in doubles.

Anastasia Khomyachenko and Taylor Heath won their singles matches and their doubles matches, 8-4.

Kim said about their previous doubles play, “We suck at doubles, they’re even worse when they are tired.”

Khomyachenko won her match in two sets, 6-1, 6-3, and Heath also won her match 6-1, 6-0.

Heath said, “We are always in a relaxed environment and I feel we excel when there is not as much pressure,”

The women only have two games left, then the South Coast Conference Tournament and finally the CCCAA State Championship.

Kim said you could never be prepared for what is next.

“You never feel prepared, and their are some injuries and fatigue, but they’re toughening up, as we could see with the comeback against El Camino,” he said.

Heath says she feels prepared due to her coaches, “Our assistant coach Ayca always makes sure we are giving it our all at practice.”

The team now looks ahead to play Rio Hondo on Tuesday, March 29 for an in conference play, the last time they played Rio Hondo the team won, 9-0.
