Scrubs and Snouts society held its first annual year of “Mind Unwind” with ASCC on May 6, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“This club, started in March,” expressed Camillia, who hosted the event of Scrubs and Snouts, “We’re a new club, we are a club that is based on pre-med and pre-vets, so it is a combination of two, everyone’s welcome.”
“We kind of combined the mental health awareness and the Asian Pacific Islander month, it was diverted,” Camilia openly said.
David, part of the ICC representative of Scrubs and Snouts and vice president of the Kabarkadas club, represented himself on the microphone, introducing bands like Domino Effect, a pop punk band, who performed ” Incompetence “, and is also known for performing “Gimme A Break”.
Students were dancing in groups, starting mosh pits as the band continued, creating a positive and stress-free atmosphere.
“As you know, finals are coming closer, so this kind of event where people can destress,” Camilia said.
All Of A Sudden, a rock band performed and was also the heart of mosh pits as more people gathered around and effortlessly let their hearts dance with the music.
Peter Turnquist is a loving pet handler and owner of two golden retrievers, Oakley and Annie. He had a ball launcher for students to throw the ball for the two to fetch the ball. He is part of the organization called “Paws to Share”.
“There’s something about an animal that when you get a hold of it, you can love them up, you can just see the stress run out of people”.
Students and faculty sat under the shade to pet loveable dogs, and communities enjoyed every last minute of it.
Lines formed around the Henna line as Henna artists used techniques and patience to create their own masterpieces on students’ arms, coming to life.
Food was also provided at the event. Pizza and breadsticks were given out for free so students could enjoy a slice and sit down on their own comfortable blankets.
Saahas For Cause performed a cultural dance. Saahas For Cause is a nonprofit organization that strives to spread information amongst South Asian immigrants to prepare them for the workforce and positions they later improve on, thanks to the tools they have.
David fell off the side of the stage during the kabarkadas segment of the show as he was performing with his group, and he placed a bandana on his eyes. The audience stopped cheering, dead silent.
Members of the group rushed over to check on him. “Are you ok?” was often asked, and no response was heard.
He then picked himself up, with a bouquet of talon marks newspaper with crochet flowers to hibiscus flowers tucked inside, he walked across the pavement to deliver the flowers to a young lady sitting with the rest of the Scrubs and Snouts club, the performers pulled out talon marks newspapers and each word in marker spells out, “CAN I BE UR BF ?” with a red drawn heart at the end of it.
“I think a lot of people had so much fun today, listening to the bands and watching us perform and having fun with their friends,” concluded Camilia.
