After a brief hiatus, the CARE department and Marcia Chaney will be bringing back the “CARE Mentoring Program.”

“This program will be great to bridge students who need help accomplishing their educational goals and the faculty who will be offering their services to get the students to that point,” Chaney said.

The mentoring program was created to help students who are single parents who need guidance to have a successful time in Cerritos College.

According to the CARE mentor program informational PowerPoint, which is available in the EOPS/CARE office, to be eligible for this program you need to be part of the CARE and EOPS programs.

The criteria for EOPS is that you need to be a California resident, be able to receive Financial Aid, be a full-time student, must have a educational disadvantage and have under 70 units.

The criteria for CARE is that you need to be at least 18 years old, a single parent and have one child that is under 14 years old.

Students will be able get help because a large amount of faculty and staff members are volunteering their time to become a mentor.

“There has been a large response of faculty who wanted to take part in the part. I’m happy that many faculty members are looking forward to help,” Chaney said.

The goal of the mentor is to help their mentee settle in to college.

The mentor offers the opportunity to interact with other students and provide advice, support, and a friendship to their mentee, also to provide them with the resources needed to succeed.

For information on how to take part in the mentor program, contact the EOPS/CARE office at (562)860-2484 ext. 2384.
