ASCC kicksoff homecomeing festivites with Court elections

Twenty-two women are in the running to be in this year’s homecoming court.

Court orientation was held Thursday in BK112 to help the  women get a true sense of what homecoming is really all about.

Apart from all the glitz and glamour the homecoming queen title brings, in the end it’s not all about beauty and popularity.

“Homecoming is not a beauty contest, it’s about getting involved in school activities,” explained Dean Ackland, coordinator of student activities.

The women are encouraged to participate in the schools events, and get themselves acquainted with the students of Cerritos College.

“It’s all about having fun, sharing in the school spirit, and getting to meet new people,” said Holly Bogdanovich, director of student activities.

Helen Eggleston, Court Reporting Club, is one of the young women in the running for homecoming.

“My club encouraged me to do it. I am married so I wasn’t sure if I would qualify.”

From married women to newcomers to the school, homecoming is made available to all female students here at Cerritos.

“This is my first year here, running looked like fun, and I wanted to meet women who were interested in the same things I like,” explained Valerie Gomez, forensics major.

This year’s homecoming will take place on Oct. 18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Elections for the top seven women to make homecoming court will take place on Wednesday.

Results will be posted on Thursday night at the Student Activities office.
