The Student Programming Board hosted its first outdoor movie night of the spring semester as they featured DreamWorks “The Wild Robot” on Jan. 22, outside Falcon Square.
Students, faculty members, friends and family gather in the grass area outside the Performing Arts Center by the stage next to the Falcon Square with their blankets and lawn chairs.
The SPB also provided lawn chairs to those who didn’t have a seat and got set up on the grass area enjoying their time watching the movie.
The event started at 5:30 p.m. as well as the movie so it’s suggested to arrive early to grab your snacks, seats and not miss the movie.
The movie was projected onto the Performing Arts Center wall, SPB set up tables provide popcorn, chips, candies and free hot chocolate to all the attendees.
Everyone who attended the event had to check in through the Cerritos College app and receive a free Cerritos College beanie and entered into a raffle – a giveaway for a chance to win two free Universal Studio tickets.
The giveaway winner was announced after the movie but if participants left before the winner was announced they wouldn’t get the tickets.
Ashley Yim, a sociology major, who is also the president of the Associated Students at Cerritos College, expressed how it felt to bring movie night back this semester.
“It’s fun, it’s so good to help create events that bring the community together and just let students have an opportunity to relax,” Yim said.
She continued, “Movie night is a good way to meet people that you haven’t seen outside of your class.”
Cierra Martinez, a communications major, who has previously attended these movie night events said, “I really liked it the first time, I feel like the community was really good and having friends there was really fun.”
Martinez also shared, what she looks forward to the most on movie nights, “Spending time with friends and making the most out of the events that Cerritos College has here instead of just going to class and leaving.”
David Torres, an aerospace engineering major, was a first-time attendee of a movie night event and came to the event to give himself a little break from studying and to enjoy the movie.
Chloe Jimenez, a public health science major, said she’s been trying to make it pretty consistent with movie nights. “I try to get more people to come.”
“Seeing the whole community come out together I feel like it’s very wholesome to see people just come out and have fun being a human and interacting with people,” Yim said.
“It’s what movie night is about,” Yim finished.
