Cerritos College held its Spring Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. located at the Student Center on April 2.
The job fair was open to all students, alumni and the community.
The fair featured over 30 participating employers from South Bay Regional Public Communications, LAXPD, Inspira Behavior, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, Norwalk’s La Miranda Unified School District, Santa Fe Springs Police Services and many more.
The goal was to help people find the fields they would like to pursue in the future, as well as have people look over resumes to offer individuals advice on how they can strengthen their resumes to get better opportunities.
By walking inside the Student Center, you are greeted by Career Services, which is responsible for helping people sign up for the job fair and assisting you by answering any questions that one may have about the event itself or possibly getting more information about something that you may be interested in.
All of these employers who volunteered to go to the fair are experts in their respective fields and have been returning to Cerritos College to share what they do for a living and offer jobs that all people can apply for.
One individual who was interviewed at the job fair is a woman named Nelly Carbajal. Carbajal has been attending the Cerritos College job fair for three years straight. She is a recruiter for Homecare with the purpose of promoting their caregiver positions as well as the administrative positions at Cambrian Home Care.
When asked if she is proud of what she does, Carbajal said, “I am very proud of what I do. love interacting with everybody and giving them that opportunity to hear us out. I know there’s a lot of young people trying to figure things out, but it’s definitely a good way to start, even in your first and second year of college, you know?”
Employer, Vinny Gálvez, who has been working at Waterworks Aquatics for 13 years, has also been attending the fair for three years.
“We are looking for individuals who are open, willing to work with students, and who are looking to make a big difference in the world,” Gálvez expressed.
Waterworks Aquatics has six locations nearby and is currently hiring swim instructors.
Lastly, Katarina Taylor, the career counselor for Student Accessibility Services, brought her class to the fair so they could experience it.
For the past three and a half years, since she started working at the college, she has been attending job fairs.
“I love what I do. I love working with students with disabilities, access, education, employment, and being a productive member of society.”
Many people of all ages, from different backgrounds, all came together to check out the job fair, making it a successful event. The next free job fair events will also happen around the next Fall and Spring semesters, with dates to be announced.
