The Cerritos College Falcons men’s basketball team dominated Los Angeles Harbor College with a score of 85-61 as they extended their winning streak to seven games.
“I just think that our guys are focused on a big goal of getting in the state tournament and doing some damage and they’re starting to play together and it’s kind of fun to watch,” head coach Russ May said.
This was the final home game for the Falcons in the 2025-2026 regular season as playoffs are nearby.
The Falcons will finish with two more games on the road, Feb. 18 against El Camino College and Feb. 20 against Long Beach City College.
Forward Dorian Tate as he opened the scoring for Cerritos with a 3-pointer and set the tone for the Falcons.
A few minutes later Tate made a block that lead to a layup being scored by forward Black Brewer.
A few plays later Brewer would score another layup off of a deflected pass.
Cerritos dominated offensively with 8:22 minutes left in the first half as they were leading 25-9.
The defense played a big part in the Falcons growing their first half lead.
“Our mentality going through our defense is we’re going [to force] everything to the paint,” guard David Mack said. “We are not going to let nothing go to the sideline, we’re going to be there. We’re going to be as aggressive as possible.”
Cerritos lead 36-17 with 3:40 minutes to go in the first half.
Before the half ended, guard Elijah Gelin attempted the final shot of the half and scored a 3-pointer.
At halftime, the score is 44-24 with Cerritos leading after dominating offensively throughout the first half.
As the second half opened, Cerritos continued to dominate offensively.
A slam dunk was made by Tate during the second half.
Guard David Mack made a 3-pointer shot to beat the shot clock and extend the lead to 68-45.
After a dominant second half, Cerritos beat Los Angeles Harbor with the score ending 85-61 in favor of Cerritos.
“We’ve got two tough opponents. We’re on the road at El Camino, who played us real tough, and then Long Beach is our rival,” May said on what his team will look forward to for the next two games and the state tournament. “So we’ve got to stay focused, but I think our guys will be ready to compete and we’re looking forward to it.”
“Really just consistency, we’ve got to keep the same energy, blow the rest of the teams out in conference, make sure that there’s no chance of us dropping a single game, which would mess up our seeding for the playoffs,” guard Elijah Gelin said on the team’s outlook to close out the season.
Mack said that his team looks forward to coming to practice everyday to push each other to get better to get to the next level as they prepare for the final two games of the regular season and the state tournament.
