“Back To The Future” is not forgotten on Cerritos Campus

A movie night featuring the 1985 Adventure film “Back to the Future” was held by The Cinematic Arts Club and International Student Association at the amphitheater also known as “the hill” from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday .

Admission was free, and various snacks were sold as a fundraiser for scholarships and club expenses.

ISA member Jorge Rios shared what he thought about this event.

“I think it’s pretty cool, it kind of brings a little chill back in the air, because I know it’s been a little bit busy, midterms are coming up,” he said.

A few students that arrived early came with blankets and Snuggies to keep warm, and sipped hot chocolate provided by the clubs.

Business major Jerry McDonald commented on the choice of movie.

“It’s an awesome movie, it’s a classic, who doesn’t like ‘Back to the Future?'”

“I think a lot of students are going to show up because it’s outside, it’s a great advertisement,” he added.

CAC member Robert Mejico said that members had voted between “Blade Runner” and “Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope”.

“Back to the Future” took the win.

Every semester the movie night has a certain theme, last semester’s was Horror films.

Mejico spoke about the theme they chose. “We were originally going to have a romantic comedy movie for Valentine’s Day, but the day got pushed back, so we had to choose a different movie.

“We had a few options, and the majority voted for this one,” Mejico said.

“It was a good turnout, I’m having fun,” he said as the movie progressed.

Math Major Boheri Rivas, also a CAC member said, “It’s definitely interesting how we’re working together [with ISA] to have the movie available for everyone.”

People came and went throughout the film, but the audience consisted of about 20 students.

Cinematic Arts Club president Richard Carlos spoke about the fund-raised money and the turnout of the event.

“I definitely think that it wasn’t as good as it was last semester for movie horror night, and I think a reason was because of the weather.

“It was windy, and even at one point the screen blew down,” he said.

“I don’t think we made as much as we would have hoped to, if we had made a tremendous amount, we probably would definitely be using some of that funding to make shirts for the club, promote the club online, [make] flyers, and help out with productions that students are doing.

“Most likely it will probably be used to have a banquet at the end of the semester,” he said.

Carlos concluded by saying, “It’s not about the turnout of people that actually attend, its about the event itself, its about having some type of artistic event showcasing cinema.

“The people that do go are the people that recognize it, and we appreciate that and that’s what we’re really trying to do, is promote cinematic expression.”
