DA: Hi. My name is Dayanara, and I’m with
KS: Karina Soriano. I am the editor in chief of Talon Marks.
DA: and today we are talking about popular restaurants here in Cerritos. And I want to start off by saying for top 10, which is number 10, Off Street Cafe located at Artseia Cerritos. It’s known for its speedy service. It’s a classic cottage Cafe experience. Ratings on Google maps have expressed the atmosphere as calm with an outdoor patio. Others notice how crowded the area is, so it must be really popular to gain attention from audiences. The restaurant offers vegan options for any vegan lovers out there. What’s mainly popular is the brioche, French toast, chicken and waffles, House made cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos and a house skillet, if you like, reasonable prices in our adventurous, Off Street Cafe, is a place to go, Karina. Have you ever gone to that place before?
KS: Yes. So I’m a huge foodie. Obviously, our last magazine print was all about food. I am big on eating around Cerritos, Norwalk, Bellflower, Downey, all of the surrounding areas like I love eating around here. We have so much diverse diversity when it comes to our food. Off street is one of my favorite, like, breakfast places. It’s where I go with my family. I love that they also make their pancakes, their kids pancakes into like little Mickey shape. It’s so cute. And then, obviously, I have a kid, so he loves that. And I love they have their cinnamon roll french toast. Really, really good also. So I just feel like everything they have on that menu is a hit. I’ve yet to try something that I did not like from off Street Cafe.
Wow, I gotta try that myself.
Yes, you have to try it.
Number nine would be the Rosewoods Restaurant, a family friendly owned restaurant with a family friendly theme, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner all day. The most popular dishes include Rosewood omelet, rosewood potato and homemade maneuver, homemade pozole, and famous 5050, breakfast burritos with large proportions, which is really good in restaurants, right? You want to pay for what you eat, usually large proportions for the exact same price.
What do you think about it?
Rosewood? I love rosewood. The owner of rosewood and the manager of rosewood, super awesome people. They’re always there. So that’s what makes it like that family owned, you know, vibe. It’s because they’re, you could, the manager’s there all the time. He goes around. He helps the people out, he helps the servers. It’s very hands on, and I love seeing that. I love seeing that they make you feel like your family and the food is also good, like, if you’re looking for a good omelet, I love their omelets. Their potatoes are good. I’m kind of snobby about my like pozole and my menudo, so I cannot give you, like, a rating on that, just because I haven’t tried it from there, just because I don’t want to be disappointed. So usually, when I’m like, Oh, I don’t know if I’m gonna like that, since I’m I’m biased. My mom makes great menudo pozole,So it’s gonna be hard for me to go somewhere and kind of taste that, but everything else they have in a menu, really, really good. You know, I feel like, yeah, the portions are great. More than anything. I think what makes you feel it’s one of those things where the food is good but the environment is welcoming, and that’s kind of what makes it better.
Yeah, number eight would be Katsumura in City Plaza, serves with a small charcoal grill known for Katsu gyu, cheese, for comfort space, for red light with Japanese flavors, and relies on comfort space, which is really good because, like, I’ve been to other places where they grilled meat.
Mhm.
And honestly, I think for that amazing experience to just go out and just to pick out what you want. I think it brings in more customers in and have you gone to any other places for for a barbecue group?
Oh, so Katsura. Like, I’m trying to recall if I’ve gone there, because I’ve been to a lot of the like Korean barbecue, or, you know, those type of places even hot, like pot type of places around here. And there’s so many in the Cerritos area that it kind of become overwhelming, to be honest, because they’re really, really good. But I’m trying to recall if I’ve been there or not, I would say that I have, but it was probably not memorable, because I don’t remember so, yeah.
Okay, number seven, North Italia and Los Cerritos center, the white truffle bread stands out, is what I’ve heard. Happy Hour reduces the cost of drinks and has Pi Day pizzas for Pi Day for time crafted pizzas. Yeah, I think I should try that out. Like, white truffle bread. Like, what else can you ask for?
Honestly, have you? Have you not? Have you? You haven’t tried that place out yet?
No I haven’t yet.
No, oh my gosh. North Italia is so good. Their bread is so good. Their bread, I’m like, Oh, my God, they have a really good their specials are good. So usually they have weekly specials. I know that their soup is really, really good. (laughter). They have, like, a tomato soup. I love their tomato soup, but their pizza is great. I feel like, also really great service. The drinks are good too. And the one thing that I would have to say the star of the show is that bread, the bread, the truffle. Oh, my god, so good. One of my favorite things.
Number Six, Sunny on South in Cerritos Plaza. The patio is dog friendly. Closes early at 2:30pm and the short rib birria stands out. My grandma usually makes birria. And honestly, I think, as someone who wants to try new things, I feel like, if it could, could, if it can’t compare to my grandma’s like, you know, just try it out (laughter).
Well, their menu is good for breakfast. I like going there too. So I’m a big breakfast person. Sunny on South is one of the places that I like to go to for breakfast as well. And I do like their I have a doggy, so I do bring him with me. And yeah, so I think that their menus, it’s about extensive, but it is, it’s good. And I would also have to say, if you don’t have that, I don’t know if you were going to have this coming up or, you know, I don’t know if you’re gonna mention this place, but another really good place is Aloha stacks. Aloha stacks has a really great breakfast, and they’re in Cerritos. They’re over in the plaza in front of the Cerritos Mall. Really, really good. It’s the same plaza where you have, like, the you have Starbucks, I think you have Crumbled Cookies, I believe like it’s the same plaza where the Targets at, so it’s right there. And Aloha stacks. They also close early, but the menu so good. They have such a variety, and everything is really great.
(laughter)
Number five would be Kung Fu Tea and Artesia. And I already know you’ve mentioned this to me before, so what I’ve heard is the popular items include coca cream wow and Thai milk tea. Very comforting, and allows top tier customer service and allows different sugar levels for your take a sweetener to tapioca pearls, pudding and sweet cream if you’re looking for a low sugary drink, review, reviewers recommend the Jujubee and longan tea. Have you ever tried any of this?
Yes, (laughter) I love kung fu tea. I am big into smoothies. Obviously, I’m drinking a smoothie right now, but I’m really big into boba. I’m really big into collaborations. I love the quirky collaborations they do. They do, like, mini collaborations, or like, I know they have, like Mario, and they had, like Barbie, and they do things like that, where the drinks kind of have this collab aspect to them, like even Pokemon. But yeah, I love the fact that I can choose my sweetness levels, because I don’t like, like, overly sweet stuff, and when my boba is just overly sugary, overly sweet, it’s not for me. I do like that. They also have this thing called Milk cap, which they use, like, lactose free milk on some of their products, which is great, because if you don’t offer oat milk, then at least give me an option to have lactose free milk. And, yeah, so I love going to that place. I do also like that. It’s very inviting and friendly. And I have a four year old who loves to go there, so he loves going and getting drinks with me there. And we have, like, a little Mommy, you know, Sunday.
(laughter).
do you put any tapioca pearls? They’re like, a
Yes, So I do the boba. So usually mine, um, mine drink, I’ll like, it’ll be a variety. So sometimes I want the tea, sometimes I want something that’s more like their chocolate, or like chocolatey, you know, something. Sometimes I want something more fruity, maybe Taro. But I do always add boba, and then I like to add aloe. So that’s usually my go to boba and aloe. I usually don’t like to add more stuff, because then it’s a little bit overwhelming and I don’t get to actually enjoy my drink. I feel like I’m drinking so many other things. So yeah, that’s usually my go to.
Great, Number four would be Beard Papa’s Cerritos is a dessert shop (laughter) with cream puffs to custard filled in pastries. Reviewers commented on how fresh and warm and even just like the special crème brûlée puff to the popular Dubai chocolate, but in a cream puff, or maybe go classic to the original cream puff to build your own pastries online. On their website, I know you told me about this.
I love bearded papa’s. Yeah, like I said, it’s usually like, we’ll do the day where we’ll go to Kung Fu, and then we’ll go to bearded papas. I’ll get them, like, some cream puffs. We’ll kind of share, hang out, do some, like, people watching. I love, I love everything they have on a menu. I am actually allergic to, like, almonds, pistachios, all of that. So I’m not allergic to peanuts, so I can have peanuts and anything like peanut buttery. But I like that. I can get something and not everything has like, you know, even with the pistachio, like, sometimes people just go overboard and they’re like, oh, like, you know, the pistachio is really on trend. So we’re gonna make our home menu that, you know, or a whole menu like almond milk. And I can’t stand that, because I can have almonds. So they’re one of those places that I know I can get a variety. I know that the, you know, the cream puffs are gonna be good, the desserts are gonna be great, and the service is always great as well. So if you haven’t been there, you need to go and check it out. Need to go get a box of those. I promise you, they’re addicting. So you’re going to be coming back.
Number two would be the Mustard Seed Cerritos area, and it’s 100% vegan, plant based artistry. Reviews said you get complimentary beignets the moment you sit down a vegan comfort food and has a variety for everyone to BLT sandwiches for non vegans, and alfredo pasta, cajun fries, local moco to vegan hot honey chicken are favorites among people for a casual, quiet environment.
Mhm.
And what is your intake on that?
(laughter)
I love that place you’re just like hitting all the places I like, I love, I am really open to, you know, vegetarian places, just because sometimes you just get tired of eating meat. And that’s one of the places that I like going to. It’s small, like, it’s a small shop, but very nice. The people are super nice, and the food is great. I like to get, like tofu. So that’s one of my favorites. I believe it’s like the tofu wrap, or, I can’t recall off the top of my head what it’s called, but I’ll make sure that I let you know. But yeah, that’s one of my favorite things. I’m a little bit snobby about my tofu, but they know how to do it right, It’s perfect. Literally, I had somebody go with me who didn’t know it was vegan, and I didn’t want to tell them, and they tried the tofu wrap with me, and they loved it. So it’s called the Tofu Miso crunch. That’s what it’s called. So good. Like it just the miso and the tofu just combines so well. And I really like it that my the person that I went there with they didn’t even know that there wasn’t meat in it until I told them, “Hey, by the way, you said you don’t like tofu, but that’s tofu,” you know. And so I think that they people can quickly kind of have this judgment of like, oh, I don’t think I’m gonna like that, or I don’t like the way that looks. But, you know, this is different.
Well, okay, number one, chubby cattle barbecue located in Plaza 183, and all you can eat, barbecue place with top tier meat, sushi dishes and unlimited drinks like milk tea, slushies and fruits and desserts. Apparently, there’s different packages of what you purchase equals higher class and more unique benefits on what to have in order to silver, gold and diamond. So silver will be like nice cut meat, such as brisket, miso wagyu, miso pork and chicken cartilage. Gold will be the premium Japanese A5 miyazaki wagyu such as short rib, ribeye, scallop, etc. Diamond would be like the highest top tier, including the gold tier, wagyus striplon, m8-9 wagyu chuck eye, lamb chops, uni caviar nigiri. For non members, the price is $58 and that is another barbecue place we have mentioned, and I want to try it myself. Have you tried it?
(laughter) You should see my face. I’m like, Yes, that is my favorite spot that just opened up in the city of Cerritos. I cannot say, like, enough good things about them. I take everybody I know there. So that’s our go to spot. Like all my friends from out of town. We go there where that’s like my monthly spa. I try not to splurge too much, but I do diamond here, and I am a chubby cattle member, so, you know, I love it. They’re Foy, gross, super good. They’re like, caviar, nigiri. Oh, my god, so good. I feel like they give you something that not a lot of Korean barbecue places give you, and the cuts are always great. The meat is always so good. We have gone to try other Korean barbecue places with my group of friends that I usually go and have, like Korean barbecue like night. So once a month, we meet up and we go get Korean barbecue together, and. We try different places, but we keep on going back to to chubby cattle, just because it’s so great and inviting. And I feel like, you know you can go and get your sides. They have, like, the unlimited sides. They also have, like, a little dessert area where you can get ice cream and you they have like toppers, like cereal and things like that you can put on top of your ice cream. Those are all little things that I feel like for the price point that you’re paying, you’re getting so much for that price point. You know, even the quality of meat so great. I can’t like I said, I cannot say like enough good things about them.
Well, this is our top 10. And thank you so much for Karina to join with me today.
And And yes, I was gonna say, if you go to chubby cattle, you got to make sure go on the weekends. And if you don’t go on the weekends, try to see when Sam is working there. Sam is one of the most amazing people that have ever helped me out at chubby cattle. Anytime we go there, we always ask for Sam, just because he’s he’s so great. He makes the experience that much better. And I feel like when you’re going to be paying kind of like a pretty penny for something like that, because some people you know aren’t just so easily going to spend like $90 per person on some meat, but he makes the experience worth it. So yeah, that’s all I want to say.
Shout out to Sam, yeah, thank you so much. Karina, bye
