First ICC meeting kicks off new semester

Carnival booths filled with prizes and jars filled with blood is just a taste of what’s to come.

The first International Club Council meeting took place Thursday.

‘The ICC brings various clubs together to share ASCC and individual clubs activities,’ ICC Commissioner Brittany Sorsythe said.

Sorsythe announced up coming events: Club Information day/night, Valentines Blood Drive,’ and advisor and two officers luncheon. The Environmental club also announced its events.

Katherine Garcia, President of the Environmental Club said ‘We’Ire trying to promote environmental issues. We clean beaches, recycle, volunteer work at parks, and in the process of negotiating recycle bins on campus.’

The club will be hosting a picnic Jan. 31 at Downey Wilderness from 12:00 ‘- 3:00. Everyone is welcomed. The cost is free and Mexican food will be served. If any questions contact Katherine Garcia at [email protected] or add group on Facebook at Facebook.com/cccrec.

Club Information day/night was cancelled Jan. 26 due to rain. The newly scheduled date is Jan. 28 from 10:00 ‘- 1:00 and 5:00 ‘- 7:00. Booths will be lined up along the quad walkway.

Various clubs will host a booth to provide information and ‘Q’s & A’s’ about their club. The purpose is to recruit new members to get students involved on campus.

‘Cerritos College is one of the top producing blood for local hospitals’ said Rob Torrez, Senior Field Manager of American Red Cross. The Valentine Blood Drive will be held in the Student Center Feb. 9, 10, and 11 from 8:00 ‘- 8:00. ‘I think the blood drive is cool because its away we can give back to people who really may need it because I can do without a pint of blood, and I’ve given blood before’ said Adriana Sadlinas, Physiology Major.

Those who need bribery, T-shirts and Mimi’s Caf’eacute; appetizer coupons will be given out to donors. Free gifts are awesome, but ‘the most rewarding gift will be to know you helped save a life’ said Torrez.

More events that have been planned by the ICC are,

  • Mar. 16 Western carnival booths will be along the quad. Booths will have candy and prizes provided by the ASCC. Fee is undecided.
  • Mar. 17 the delicious Chili Cook-off will be held in the Student Center at 11:00. Students are encouraged to submit their dishes for judging.
  • Mar. 18 the famous IN-N-OUT BURGERS truck will be park along quad walkway. The cost is free with current spring semester sticker on college I.D. card.
