Students and recruiters gathered at the sidewalk of the Cerritos College Library.

Job seekers and recruiters roamed about the sidewalk of Cerritos College’s library Tuesday morning at the school’s biannual Career Expo and Job Fair.

The event was available to anybody seeking a job, and took place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In attendance were representatives from companies such as: Downey Police Department, T-Mobile, UPS, Los Angeles Fire Department, Golf ‘n Stuff, The Art Institute of Orange County, and more.

While some companies sought students that could lift heavy objects, others like the Downey PD looked for those who were willing to be dedicated.

Officer Melissa Clemann of the Downey PD warned that while anybody can be an officer, it’s a difficult process.

“(The) background process is extensive. (The Downey PD is) looking for anybody who wants to be a police officer, (that has) a good background and is motivated,” Clemann said.

For the students that might feel intimated to be a police officer, there are always an alternative at companies such as UPS.

Human resources recruiter Veronica Rubalcava was ready to speak to these prospective applicants.

“We’re looking for (applicants) that can lift up to 70 pounds, and 1,200 packages per hour. They would work Monday through Friday, three-to-five hours per day,” Rubalcava said.

Outside of Talon Marks I have six years of journalistic experience, which include being the editor-in-chief and owner of WCBSports.com, a sports website with a west coast bias, the former EIC and part-owner of DodgersNation.com, and a contributor to LakersNation.com. My hobbies include: Bowling, Hiking, Basketball, Video Games and Writing, among other things. I am a lover of all sports and an especially big fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, UCLA Athletics, Los Angeles Lakers and Peyton Manning (currently of the Denver Broncos). My goal is for my website, which stands for West Coast Bias Sports, to become a household name, and to see it become a reputable brand. I'd also love to work for ESPN some day covering all types of sports, and sharing my love for them with the world.
