The Career Center hosted an event for students transferring to a university in the fall of 2016 or the summer of 2017 and are interested in paid internships onTuesday, Mar 1.

The event which started at 11:00 a.m. was created by career counselor Clara Ross-Jones.

The event guest speaker, Claudia Biezonsky, is Inroads senior manager and spoke to students about all inroads internships and their requirements.

Clara Ross-Jones said, “I worked with [Biezonsky] and the Inroads team to help bring her to our campus. I’m always talking to students about building a resume and getting experience in your career choice. I contacted her because that is exactly what they do.”

Students piled in the classroom wanting to learn more about internship opportunities.

She said, “We are focused on the development of young people. We really do believe in trying to make sure that we are not just placing interns but that these interns will eventually become the executives, the VP, and CEO’s of companies. That is what sets us apart from any other organization.”

Inroads is the oldest non-profit leadership development and was founded in 1970 by Frank C. Carr.

This paid internship averages 6,000 to 10,000 in pay over a 8-12 week period.

It has impacted over 150,000 lives of professionals and it continues to grow.

Applicants must be attending or plan to be attending a four-year university, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have at least one summer left toward undergrad and major in business, STEM, and liberal arts.

Biezonsky also talked about the importance of this internship and how it leads to many opportunities.

She said, “It is important to start working on your career as early as possible and take advantages of opportunities so that when you’re ready to transfer, you’ll already had your foot in the door.”

Biezonsky added, “Make sure you work on resume, visit the Career Center and do research so when you apply you’ll have an idea of what you’re interested in doing.“

Students heard word of the event through friends, flyers and the Career Center.

Ross-Jones said, “I thought it was a great turnout. I thought we had a room full of people asking great questions.”
