Men’s basketball fails to complete comeback

WIth 20 seconds to go in the game, the score is tied, Cerritos College has the ball, the team shot and missed, LA Tech Trade Center gets the ball, they run down the court they shot and score. Cerritos College men’s basketball team lost its 3rd consecutive game on Jan. 23, with the score of 80-78.

Freshman forward Darlus Williams was the team’s top scorer of the game with 26 points.

“I feel like we had it the whole time, somehow it slipped away. The game was pretty much even, even with us struggling a little bit, we played very good in this game,”  Williams said.

The Falcons started off their game with a foul against them for dunking during warm up, which led to LA Tech taking the lead by two points.  Freshman guard Keith Wiltz scored the first two points for Cerritos.

“I think I played pretty well because I’ve been in a slump for the past few games. My coach believed in me and my teammates believed in me and that’s what kept me going,”  Wiltz said.

After Cerritos took its first time out, the team came back and took the lead in the game at the beginning of the first half but ended trailing behind by the end of the half.

“We followed the game plan. It just came down to the last second. We didn’t focus on our block outs, but we controlled the tempo. We were down some but we fought back in both halves and came back,”  Wiltz said.

With one more half to go, the falcons came back from half time with dominating attitudes and tied up the game.

“We wanted to take care of the ball and try to get the ball inside and try and limit their second shots. I think we did a pretty good job at that tonight, but two bad breaks at the end that what happened,” head coach Russ May said.

As the game winded down to the last few minutes, the cheers from the stands grew louder and louder, but even with the cheers from the stands the Falcons chants suppressed the others.
