Men’s tennis sweeps Palomar

The Men’s Tennis team bounced back with a dominant victory over Palomar, sweeping them 9-0.

At the Friday, Feb. 5 game, head coach Alvin Kim made some important adjustments to the roster prior to the game, choosing to rest some of his top players to allow some of his freshmen to get their first taste of the action this season.

The new additions to the team showed that being rookies doesn’t make them weak, with freshmen Eliot Dota and Kyle Konishi serving up victories for the win column.

The latter, Konishi, was unable to play in the season opener against Mt. San Juancito due to equipment issues, however, the wait was well worth it for his 6-1, 6-3 beat down.

Aleks Trifunovic had a seemingly close affair with his top spot in the singles ladder, giving up one loss in the match before winning the tiebreaker 11-9 trailing after the 6-4 win and 1-6 loss.

This victory is following up a close 1-8 defeat at the hands of top-ranked Irvine Valley, who escaped with a few close wins.

The doubles division of the day saw a dominant sweep, with Palomar unable to score above 4 points against the hustling and bustling Cerritos Falcons.

Where the team prospers is their ability to be consistent in the games they have played this season.

While it is still fairly early in the season, Kim’s Falcons should feel decently confident with their 3-1 record, with the sole defeat being at the hands of the top ranked tennis team in the division.

So while the team continues to roll on with a positive outlook, the real focus is on the next game at Glendale, which will be the newest test of skill for the team.
