The Cerritos College men’s soccer team played against Oxnard College and came out victorious with a final score of 5-3 on Tuesday.

Forward Angel Ayala was able to score a natural hat trick, as he scored three goals before half time.

Ayala was assisted with passes by freshmen midfielders Gerardo Soto and Dominic Escobar along with sophomore defender Alejandro Covarrubias.

“Our last past games we were slow in the start but we started off really good in this game, we were pumped and really wanted to win.” Said Ayala.

“Our group is really strong mentally, we’re good right now,”Ayala said. “I think we can beat any team right now with our competition, and our strength, we’re confident right now.”

Sophomore forward Aaron Macedo, who picked up his goal on a pass from freshman midfielder Christian Alvarez, scored the fourth goal in the last half of the game.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Garcia who was assisted by freshman midfielder Carlos Escobar, converted the fifth and final goal by Garcia was also his fifth goal of the season.

Head Coach Benny Artiaga praised the team’s defense for applying the pressure so the offense could take care of the rest.

Artiaga is looking forward to the next couple of games.

“You attempt to make every game competitive because we learn more by not blowing a team out. What are we really learning when we’re not being applied pressure? Our competition is really good,” Artiaga said. “Our group is really phenomenal.”

The team currently stands at 22 goals for the season.
