With sophomore goalkeepers Danny Lizama having three goal saves, and defenders preventing Pasadena City College to score in the second half, the Falcons men’s soccer team defeated PCC, 6-1, in their second Conference game of the season.

“I wasn’t pleased with my team in the second half. I was happy with our goal in the first half but (Cerritos) changed their game plan in the second half, and it worked,” PCC Head Coach Edgar Manvelyan said.

“We didn’t do well, and the Falcons got the chance to score five goals (on us) in the second half.”

The Lancers were able to get an early lead in the game when freshmen forward Michael Alcaraz scored a quick goal in the 20th minute of the game.

The Falcons were able to shut out the Lancers from making another goal with Lizama getting one of his goal saves in the 15th minute.

It wasn’t until the 38th minute of the game, that midfielder Geraldo Soto answered back with the Falcons first goal.

The first half ended in a 1-1 tie, which Cerritos Head Coach Benny Artiaga believes was a slow start to the game.

“If you really look at it, we’ve been struggling in the first half in the past few games, but been picking (our game) up in the second half. It’s one of those we need to work on to see why we have the slow starts. If we came in to the game the way we play in the second, we will be blowing people out.”

Freshmen midfielder Juan Ochoa states that the team was reminded that they are still undefeated on there field this season, which motivated them to step up their game.

In the second half, the Falcons quickly made a goal when midfielder Juan Ochoa made a shot that hit off of PCCs goalie in the 18th minute, and freshmen midfielder Daniel Garica would score soon with an assist from freshmen Dominic Escobar.

Escobar, along with sophomore midfielder Aaron Macedo, and defender Alejandro Covarrubias scoring a last minute goal to solidify the Falcons win against PCC, 6-1.

“We played sloppy in the first half, but we got the hang of it in the second half,” Escobar said.

“I was proud when I scored in the second half, especially since I haven’t score in a while.”

The Falcons next game will be at El Camino on Oct. 5 at 2 pm.
