Cerritos Falcons Women’s Soccer team is on an 11 game winning streak as they won against Long Beach City College Tuesday with a final score of 6-0.

This win leaves only four colleges including Cerritos, undefeated upon the California Community College Athletic Association polls, with Cerritos taking the first seed by nine points.

Sophomore forward No. 10 Sydney Carr was a hat-trick hero with four goals in the game as she improved her standings and remains first place in three different categories: goals with 22, points with 55, and fist in shots with 91.

Carr is not the only Falcon on top of the stats lists; she is joined by No. 11 forward Serena Camacho who is in second behind Carr in shots with 66.

Sophomore goalkeeper No.1 Deisy Rodriguez is in second in goals against and goals against average with zero in both categories.

Cerritos struggled in the opening minutes in the first period.

Camacho commented on the slow start after the game, she said “I don’t believe there was any reason for it, but we always end up picking it up. It’s just when we do start up slow everyone needs to encourage each other to stick together [instead of] putting each other down.”

Defensive player No. 6 Brianna Yepez didn’t know what was going on she said, “Honestly, I don’t even know why, I did see it though. Yeah, we didn’t come off as we usually come out, strong. I don’t know if it was the weather, if it was too hot for them.”

The Falcons were able to turn away from their slow start as Camacho scored a goal 13 minutes into the game, her only goal of the game.

Just one minute later Carr drilled one to the back of the net after beating her defender to score her first goal of the game.

Midway into the half Carr asked to be substituted. She said, “I actually couldn’t catch my breath for some reason. i was just running up and down the line beating my defender so knowing I could do that I just kept running.

“I think after every sprint I was just getting a little tired and I couldn’t catch my breath.” She later returned in the second half to score 3 more goals.

Deep into the first period, the Falcons took control of the game and were able to head into the half ready to put the game away.

Coming out of the half, the Falcons retained the energy from the first half and came out scoring in the first minute of the second half.

Carr scored 3 goals in the second half to put the team up with her final goal coming 60 minutes into the game.

In the second half of the game Yepez saw her first goal of the season as she tapped the ball into the back of the net off of a corner kick.

Yepez was ecstatic after her first goal. She said after the game, “I’m really happy with my first goal of the season, yeah, I’m just happy.”

Carr earned herself a hat trick and an assist in the game, but she felt she could have improved.

She said, “I think I did well, having four goals and an assist. In every game I wanna do better.”

Assistant Coach Brent Whitfield felt that the team played fair and showed signs of greatness, but there are plenty of things to work on.

He said, “Coming into this game and playing against rival, so to speak, I thought we did well considering they were playing a stopper sweeper formation which was the first time anyone has ever played that formation against us this season.

“But after we made some adjustments the girls kind of picked it up, but still turned the ball over a lot when we still had time on the clock.”

A stopper sweeper formation is when there are four players on the back and they play with one player deep which is used mostly for attacking teams.

Whitfield addressed the issues in this game and as to how the team would fix their problems he said, “I think for the next game adding more pressure on the ball and understanding that we need to get the ball to our forwards earlier will improve things.

“Also, being more threatening in our attack. I think that’ll be our focus areas for the next game.”

The Falcons most recently won 4-0 in an away matchup against Mt. San Antonio College on Oct. 12.
