Phil Round 1 of playoffs soccer men

 

With seconds left in the highly defensive game, forward Chadd Johnson forced in a header to score his first goal of the season, and the goal that helped the 3rd Falcons(11-2-9) win the soccer game against 14th seat Chaffey College, (10-9-2), 1-0, in the first round of playoffs.

 

Prior to the game, the climate to the game was affected by the weather because of the rain that took place, but that didn’t the teams from putting their best on the field to try to keep their seat in playoffs.

 

At the start of the game, both teams were playing a super physical and defensive game.

 

“Even though it was bad playing conditions (because the rain), our team did great in stopping (Chaffey) from coming in to our goal”, goalkeeper Jhovanny Hernandez said.

 

Both teams were we playing super physical that both teams were getting yellow card left to right.

 

The intensity continued from both teams throughout the first half, the score at zero each, with Hernandez having 2 goal stops.

 

When the second half started, the intensity by both teams defense continued, but speed and athleticism of the Falcons increased.

 

The intensity was so high that one of Chaffey’s players got a red card, after his second yellow card of the game.

 

In this half, the falcons had a lot of shots on goal, but Chaffey’s defense was stopping them.

 

At one point in the 85th minute, the Falcons had numerous perfect shots on goal, but the Chaffey’s defense was pushing the balls out.

 

But, during extra time, the Falcons was pressing there offense on Chaffey’s defense again.

 

After a save by the goalkeeper of the Chaffey’s goalkeeper, forward Edgar Mendez got the ball and kicked it to Johnson, where he headed the game winning goal.

 

“It feels good finally getting a goal, especially since this one helped out the team a lot” Johnson said

 

Head coach Benny Artiaga, proud of Johnson, said “I always said that Chadd (Johnson) was going to score a goal this season, and when it happened , I knew it was going to come at the perfect time”.

 

The game ended well for the Falcons, and for Hernandez, who ended with 5 goal stops, and having his eighth shutout of the game.

 

“We had difficult this game, but I’m just happy we got the win” Hernandez said.

 

The Falcons next game will be on Nov. 23 at 11:30 a.m here at Cerritos against sixth seed College of the Canyons
