Big soccer win for men

Cerritos forward Jorge Vargas scored two goals as the Falcons recorded a 4-1 victory over San Bernardino Valley College in men’s soccer action Friday at Cerritos.

Midfielder Jesus Gutierrez, translating for Vargas, said that the Falcons dominated and kept the momentum for the whole game.

Gutierrez added that the team is having its “ups and downs,” and that the Falcons have “got to step it up.”

Falcons’ midfielder Miguel Zepeda gave Cerritos a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute.

In the second half, Vargas scored the first of his two goals in the 63rd minute with an assist from midfielder Josue Perez.

Twelve minutes later, Perez got his second assist on a goal by forward Angel Piazzi.

The Falcons increased their lead to 4-1 in the 44th minute when Vargas scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Piazzi.

Cerritos showed excellent ball handling, and had 18 shots on goal to SBVC’s 4.

Falcons’ head coach Juan Torres said, “We’re improving in that area (ball handling), one touch and (then) pass the ball as soon as possible.”

He added that the team is “practicing real hard,” and it showed in the results.
