Cerritos College students joined together on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Falcon Square to participate in a Costume contest and get free henna and face paintings from the Art Club.

The Halloween contest included students and faculty. The seven judges, who were members of different departments, joined in the fun by dressing up in different costumes as well.

The faculty also gave out free Arby’s roast beef sandwiches and Pepsi to anyone who came out to support friends competing or just to hang out. There were five different categories to compete in that morning.

Trudy Foster, who works in Student Activities and was in charge of the event, was happy with the results of the costume contest.

“Anytime we involve the students in something the result is always good. We have great students. We wanted them to have a little bit of fun today,” said Foster. Even though some contestants fell into the second place category, they were still happy with the results.

Silvia Gonzalez, who is majoring in Child development, received second place for Most Creative costume. “It was really cool to dress up today. The faculty did a good job with putting everything together,” said Gonzalez.

Apart from Grim reapers and dances by shirtless Chip and Dale dancers, students attention was also drawn away by the Art club’s contribution of free face painting and free Henna.

The club spent over $200 for supplies for the day and Sariah Ha, the Vice President of the Art club was present to help out fellow members of the club.

“We wanted to give donations to people on campus. Art is a fun and amusing thing,” said Ha, “and the Art club wanted more recognition,” Ha said with a smile. Even their advisor, Mr. Najarian, participated in the costume contest and won first place for the funniest costume.

On a gray day, the faculty was able to bring out the Halloween spirit in everyone and give everyone a “bloody” good time.
