Homecoming highlights

Cerritos College students, faculty, and members of the community gathered together on Saturday night to participate in Homecoming’s “Scary Moment’s.” The night started off with the energetic yells of Cerritos’ Cheerleading squad who got the audience pumped up. The audience was on a natural high with the Cerritos College thunder sticks that everyone had. The football game started off to a slow and disappointing start when Mount Sac scored a touchdown and left the score 0-7 in the second quarter. But fear not. The Falcon’s redeemed themselves and ended up winning the game 13-7. The falcon’s fought hard and with passion. Although some players were out injured, the football team was not going down without a fight. Robert Rikey, was paying close attention to the football game. “My cousin goes here and I’ve been a fan of the Falcon’s for seven years. They rock man,” said Rikey. Another exciting part of the night was the crowning of the new Homecoming Queen. After campaigning, and participating in things like the mock rally, the finalists were happy to come to a final decision. All the women were escorted down the field by a male escort of their choice. Some had fathers and some had little brothers escort them. Heather Fox was crowned the new Homecoming queen. Fox, who was sponsored by LDSSA, was very excited and shocked to be crowned the new Homecoming Queen. “My main reason to run was to meet new people. Hopefully I can get people involved with school spirit. I am just so excited,” said Fox. Another great addition to the night was the clubs homecoming floats. There were 18 floats this year. Homecoming floats have been a tradition at Cerritos College for 43 years now. For some clubs, this was the first time they had participated in the contest. This was the Puente Club’s first time being in the competition. Adila Torres, a member of the Puente Club, was excited to be taking part with the club’s float. “I think it’s wonderful that we’re here. We’re trying to get people more involved with Puente club.” The Puente club in fact, won the Dr. Burnight Award for Most Inspirational. Even though the weather was cold outside, that didn’t stop people from coming to support all members of Cerritos College. A new queen, awesome floats, and a win for the football team. At the end of the night, everyone left content with the way things ended. Then they went out and celebrated Falcons style.
