Serving up a new year

With the men’s tennis season starting next week, these Falcons show signs of skill and talent that last years team could not put to use.

This team not only has the intent of taking the season as far as they can, but plan on being completely prepared.

” I expect this team to work hard, stay focused on the court, and to be mentally prepared,” Jerry Ellis, Head Coach.

By being in one of the strongest Conferences in California Ellis believes the teams that will bring these Falcons a challenge will be Long Beach and Mary mount, who makes it to the State Finals every year.

“This will be a good year for us. There is competition between us, so that will make everyone work harder,” Sergio Whwerta.

Of the eight-member team there are only two returnees:-Sergio Whwerta (soph.)-Key Young Kim (Soph.)

This is Ellis’ fourth year coaching the tennis team at Cerritos College.

Ellis explains that he brings his athletes a willingness to help a student succeed on the court and in the classroom.

At first the athletes all agreed that since everyone on the team was new their first task would be coming together as a team.

On television it appears that tennis is a one- man sport, but Ellis explains it different.

His strategy this year was to mold the team into a unit of teamwork.” Tennis is a team sport”, Ellis, Coach.

The team believes they posses unique qualities that will help them lead to a victory.

“Our strong assets are teamwork, commodore, and we all have good positive attitudes”, Whwerta.
