Woodworking student, Nicole Lopez, recently named student of the month was awarded with a framed certificate and the recently printed article in the Wood Digest magazine of her achievements during the Board of Trustees meeting last Wednesday.The award was presented by Bob Colgan, teacher and department chair. Other teachers who showed their support were William Ming and Jim Driskell. Colgan talks about Lopez’s accomplishments saying, “She would light up the class with inspiration and motivation.” We are very impressed with her natural talent.”After the award was presented, Colgan showed the Board the wonderful nightstand and toolbox Lopez created.Both projects were made with various hardware and mahogany. “I felt like a queen when I won this award. I was totally amazed and very grateful,” says Lopez of her winnings.In the Jan. 2003 issue of Wood Digest, which is a national publication, has a full page spread about Nicole and her work.Every month, the Cerritos Student Woodworking Association selects an outstanding woodworking student to make student of the month.This month that student was Nicole Lopez.”When I work with wood, I get lost in it. Time flies when working with it and then you see the results from it,” says Lopez.
