With little support to pitcher Jessica Navarro from the rest of the Cerritos College softball team, she and the Falcons lost to division rival Long Beach City College, 4-0, last Thursday afternoon at Nancy Kelly Field.
Shortstop Jenel Guadagno said, “This game was a little more intense because everyone gets fired up to play Long Beach.”
However, the Falcons did bounce back with wins over Fullerton College, 2-0 and College of the Canyons, 8-0, Saturday.
Navarro went six and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and recorded nine strikeouts during Thursday’s game against the Vikings.
She is ranked second in the South Coast Conference with an ERA of 0.52.
The Falcons managed only two hits and struck out six times.
“Their pitcher (Sadie Barton) threw a great game against us today,” said Kodee Murray, head coach.
Barton threw a complete game shutout giving up two hits and striking out six.
She ranked first in the South Coast Conference with an ERA of 0.26 and is also first in strike outs with 129.
Navarro bounced back on Saturday against Fullerton going seven innings and allowing only one hit.
During the game against Fullerton, the Falcons were able to score twice on Fullerton errors.
In the second game on Saturday, against College of the Canyons, the Falcons scored eight runs and two different pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout.
Korrin Soldad, pitcher, went three innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five.
Liz Reveles, pitcher, came in, in the fourth inning allow one hitting and giving up no runs.
Guadagno had four RBIs in the win, going three-for-three and driving in the winning run.
The Falcons are now 15-1 overall and 3-1 in South Coast Conference play.
Next for the Falcons is Pasadena City College on Thursday.
Pasadena is 6-9 overall and 3-1 in the South Coast Conferece.
