‘Paranormal’ doesn’t live up to hype

With all the buzz surrounding this movie, “Paranormal Activity” could not have lived up to the hype.

There just weren’t enough suspensful scenes to make it all that it was made out to be.

The opening scene shows a man and his girlfriend living their life, and they have agreed to video record themselves to see if any “spirits” or “entities” are indeed following them.

Once the first string of events take place, it’s evident that the house is haunted, and the screams come and go.

As the movie wears on, the scary sequences become predictable, but they still do their damage.

Many scenes had me gasping in total disbelief and other parts had me wonder “Is this real?”

The movie reminded me of the hand-held documentary-like ways of “The Blair Witch Project,” a movie ten years older than “Activity.”

Even with the many relations, this movie tends to give more surprises and more of a modern look into spirits and demons and the quest to know why these things terrify people today.

There are some parts that tend to drag and make you wonder if it was nessessary to be in the movie at all.

Out of five stars, I’d give this movie two, seeing that it had me on the edge of my seat, but mostly because I wanted to leave the theater to go see something a little more worth my price of admission.
