Tearing down the Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial would not only be very disrespectful but it shows just how far this country has gone from its founding beliefs.

In 1776 the pilgrims crossed the ocean to practice religious freedom. They were tired of being oppressed and ashamed of the faith they believed in.

The founding fathers of this country instilled those beliefs in American laws when they formed the constitution, and later gave everyone the freedom to practice whatever religious practice they wanted.

However, now the Supreme Court is now muffling that right by saying that a 26-foot cross on top of Mount Soledad in La Jolla, a San Diego community, is unconstitutional.

First off the cross has become a widespread symbol used to represent death period no matter the religion.

The Latin cross, initially a religious symbol, has evolved to stand for death and rebirth, according to symbols.com

Sure in the Christian faith the cross is widely known as symbol remembering the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, however, Crosses are seen all up and down the highway remembering those that perished in car accidents and such.

It’s really sad that the Supreme Court is disrespecting the families of those victims because some people have a problem with a symbol.

Something that was built to honor hard workingmen and women who gave their lives for this country has now been turned into a religious debate. Clearly that’s not what the purpose of the cross was.

It was to honor those we lost in the quest for our freedom. Freedom we have enjoyed and why we have created laws and by laws and bills of rights.

However some disagree and say that it has no place as a memorial:

Attorney Jim McElroy told the San Diego Newsroom that “[Non-Christian veterans] didn’t fight for the cross, they fought for the American flag,” but the majority of the values that the country the flag represents were based on Christian views.

The first amendment clearly states,  “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” according to Archives.gov

The argument that this country has separation of church and state doesn’t fly because even the government  still uses religion in it’s practices.

 When government officials are sworn in they use the bible. when people are interrogated or questioned on a witness stand they have to swear to tell the truth by putting their right hand on a bible.

 why is one ok but not the other? The government needs to be consistent when they try to cut out religion.

 why then limit one groups religious freedom to protect another if the monument is indeed a subliminal message by the Christians of America that everyone should be Christian, which it most definitely isn’t, then aren’t they covered by that amendment because apparently the supreme court forgot that.

 So just a message to the Government: please stop limiting our freedom and disrespecting our rights as Americans to put up a cross in memoriam of hardworking men and women regardless of their religious background. and be consistent instead of hipocritical when it comes to religious freedom
