A little less boob, a lot more boo

Short skirts, fluffy tutus and tops that really show off one’s titties have truly become staples of the Halloween season.

Every October, Party City stocks-up and Halloween pop-up shops come to offer everyone a great selection of Halloween costumes.

The costumes marketed towards men can range from:

  • Goofy jokes like the classic “chick magnet” (just a magnet over your shoulders with a bunch of cheap baby chicks glued all over)
  • The scary disfigured Freddy Kreuger come to kill you in your dreams
  • A classic police officer come to crash your party but he’s actually taking your beer for himself.

Costumes marketed towards women also have a wide range such as:

  • Freddy Krueger with a nice face and a mini dress with convenient tears.
  • Police officer in a tutu skirt and a generous serving of cleavage.
  • Hermione Granger in a skirt plenty short enough to violate school regulations and vest with the V cut so low you can’t help but notice the cleavage.

The thing is: when Halloween time comes around, stores push costumes towards women with less and less or tighter fabric.

It all gets so tiring and boring because not everyone wants to dress up as a sexy “(fill in the quotes with whatever your little heart desires)”.

Sometimes women want to be something scary. They actually do want to be the scary and disfigured Freddy Krueger.

Women don’t mind seeing themselves as actual cops or even wearing goofy costumes like “the chick magnet.”

There are even women who, due to personal or religious reasons, do not want to or cannot have so much skin exposed.

Halloween is a time for fun, for scaring the shit out of people and having the chance to pretend to be something you’re not.

There’s nothing wrong with sexy costumes, most people can appreciate them. But things would be so much better if stores took the time to offer more options than just whatever has sex appeal.

Most of the time: if a woman wants to make a kick ass scary costume, she has to have to skills to make one herself or have the money to commission someone else to do it for her.

But not everyone knows how to make clothes from scratch. Not everyone wants to spend so much money to commission a costume they’re only going to wear once.

It’s so much more affordable and convenient to head on over to Party City or another Halloween store of your choice and get a costume for $40-$60.

No one is asking to get rid of the sexy, it’s become as much a part of Halloween as trick or treating has. All stores need to do is offer more choices, more options.

Let women be scary for Halloween. Let women pretend to be someone they’re not. Let women be funny. Don’t make them all choose sexy or nothing if they don’t want to.

If stores really want to keep pushing sexy, why don’t they branch out and offer sexy costumes to men?

There has to be at least one guy out there who wants to be a shirtless police officer or Magic Mike. Take his money and let him have his sexy Halloween.
