This school is obviously academically outstanding, but the art program is not as great. From this fundraiser, we are helping expand that program”

The purpose of the festival is to raise money to for the Multi-Media Training facility.

So far the high school has raised $1.5 million through students, parents, and staff.

It has been awarded a grant of $3 million, but the cost of the facility is $6 million to build and furnish the technology building.

$1 million is needed by December.

Principal of the high school, Patricia S. Hager said, “This is the Raise The Roof Festival, and we’re trying to build a media center.” The school invited various local artists to display their work to balance out graphic arts, and contemporary media, and broadcast journalism that is going to be in the new building.

“We have incredible talented kids, Hager explained “but we also want to recognize the local artists as well, and show how we partner with the local colleges.”

The students from Cerritos whom participated in donating their art to the high school don’t expect to get money, or credit for doing this. This event is just for exposing the clubs art. Relova said he doesn’t expect to see anything from it, just present himself and his pieces. “it would be nice to sell a piece, but I’m not expecting it.”

The artists society’s paintings are being sold at the event, and 30 percent of each painting that is sold will go to the high school.

President of the artists society club, Nelson Leal said, “I’m here to be part of the community, and help out the school raise money. I’m also here to help Cerritos College students organize and give them an opportunity to display their art.”

This is the first time the club does something outside of class, according to Leal. They hope to do it some more in the future.

Lizbeth River, secretary of the club had this to say about the event.

“I’m hoping we sell our painting and inspire the kids to get into the art field and appreciate it more. We hope to spread the word about our club, The Artist Society Club.”
