Bruno Mars’ old-school approach during his anticipated presentation captivated and as stated by Billboard and Fox news, formed the “largest in the history of the Super Bowl, attracting 115.3 million viewers. This performance broke the all-time record for most viewers during halftime, surpassing the previous record of 114 million views set by Madonna in 2012.

The show opened with children holding hands and singing along the pop artist’s breakout hit, ‘Billionaire’, which was the song that kicked off his promising career in 2010. Mars then emerged slamming on a drum set, wearing a gold suit that resembled his band and started singing his groundbreaking single, ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ and then transitioned into ‘Treasure’, pumping the crowd and making everyone sing along with him.

Jose Martinez, nursing major, said, “I liked how he came in drumming. I liked everything. It was all good.”

Fans of the pop sensation enjoyed his performance and the energy he brought on stage, especially the dancing and imitation of Michael Jackson’s legendary ‘moonwalk.’

But Mars wasn’t the only entertainment that night. Veteran alternative rock band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, joined in on stage singing one of their classics, ‘Give It Away’, making the crowd bounce off the ground.

Business major Julio Figueroa said, “I liked the combination of these two different genres. I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so any performance they give is always satisfying.”

Although the rockers are men in their 50’s, their presence on stage proved that age does not limit a performers energy and fun attitude; the rockstars entered shirtless despite the weather conditions and entertained the audience whether they are fans or not. Unfortunately, their performance only lasted two minutes.

Michelle Mancilla, Business Administration major said, “I really liked that these two cool artists got together because they’re my favorite, but I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers should have had more time and I also liked how Bruno actually sang unlike previous Super Bowl performers.”

After the rockers departed from the stage, Mars ended the half time show by singing his famous lullaby,’Just The Way You Are’, with videos in the background of service men and women from the U.S. Army dedicating to their loved ones. With fireworks in the sky, and the soothing voice of Bruno Mars ringing, the Super Bowl half time performance was outstanding and one to remember.

Communications major Jasmin Moreno said, “Bruno Mars is amazing. He’s gorgeous and gave a good show. Adding Red Hot Chili Peppers made it more entertaining.”
