Students greeted with surprise in computer lab

Students who tried to log on to computers in Cerritos College’s computer lab the Tuesday following Labor Day were greeted with a surprise … but it was hardly the kind that would bring Christmas to mind.

A new log-on program was installed into the main system that had caught even the computer lab aides off guard.

While students, as one might imagine were frustrated as they tried to work the bugs out of the new program, lab employees were understandably sympathetic to their plight.

Cerritos College freshman, Mubassum Shafique who was at a computer as his buddy Hector Moreno logged on said, “Oh, you’ve got to log-on to that stupid new thing.”

But as lab aide Angel Esguerra explained, the Positive Attendence Analysis (the new program) will keep better track of the amount of time students spend working on certain classes.

The information gathered by this new system will be used to show the politicians in Sacramento what kind of use funds that Cerritos College receives goes to.

After finding this out Moreno said, “It’s cool because it’s a benefit to the school.”

By Wednesday, most students were getting the hang of the new program, and things were beginning to get back to normal
