Fortune 500 Leadership Courses Will Begin Saturday, March 22, 2003

The Cerritos College Community Education Department (CCCED) is preparing to launch a series of leadership courses beginning Saturday, March 22.

The courses will be aimed at empowering students and giving them the tools that will help them succeed in an ever- changing world.

The era of globalization has made it necessary for students to become more technologically literate. The economy is becoming a technological juggernaut and Professor Baron Stewart is attempting to make Cerritos College more advanced than ever.

“I used to work for IBM. With the economy in the shape its in these are very uncertain times. Companies like AT&T or American airlines spend a lot of money on Information Technology. They want to know that the technology is supporting the company. IBM has done workshops and things like that all through the 90’s. I was one of the instructors,” Stewart said.

Technology is one of the main focuses, however it is not the only topic of importance. Leadership is being emphasized so that students can learn what it will take to be successful.

There will be twelve sessions. Upon completion of these twelve sessions students will earn a Certificate of Completion.

The topics to be discussed will include:

·Week 1 Developing Powerful Commitments for Breakthrough Results

·Week 2 Five Tools for Boosting Organizational Creativity

and Innovation

·Week 3 Creating Values for 21st Century Leadership

·Week 4 Ten Secrets to Managing an Unpredictable Future

·Week 5 Improving Communication for Speed, Efficiency and Service

·Week 6 Building Teams to Achieve Quantum Leaps in Productivity

·Week 7 Developing an Intelligent Learning Organization

·Week 8 Aligning the Business for Maximum Synergy

·Week 9 Seven Magic Steps for Forging Successful

Organizational Change

·Week 10 Presentation Skills to Motivate and Inspire

·Week 11 World Class Sales and Marketing Techniques

·Week 12 Building Metrics for a Balanced View of Results

Students can sign up for these courses one at a time for a fee of $59 per session, four at a time for $49 per session, eight sessions for $39 per session or they can sign up for all twelve sessions for $29 per session.

B.J. Douglass is the Program Facilitator for the CCCED. She along with Program Director Laura Franklin, have been involved with putting together the various programs for the CCCED. There are approximately one hundred different workshops; they will run quarterly covering diverse topics.

“We offer a Certificate of Completion. That is different from the Certificate that you get from general courses that offer credits,” Franklin said.

“They [the courses] all fall under the same umbrella, the C.I.T.E. Community Industry & Technology Education department.”

Presenters offer these workshops at various locations. The CCCED offers these courses to anyone who is interested.

“We are always looking for something new and challenging to offer students,” Douglas said.

Cerritos is credited as being a technologically advanced school. These programs are self-supporting and the budget does not determine their success rate. The students who enroll do.

“Without those students these programs could not be offered,” Douglas said.
