Great its here again

Its that time of the year again, when love is in the air and your wallet is breathing a sigh of relief because it will soon be relieved of your hard earned cash. Yes, you will soon have the awesome once a year opportunity to be parted from your money.

The unmistakable Holiday is Valentines Day. This is a magical day filled with artery clogging chocolates, eventually wilting blossoms and wishy-washy cards that are usually either inane or argument starting attempts at romance.

The holiday has been conquered. It has been converted from a of a loving act that has been commemorated for centuries with a simple note between lovers to show their feelings for each other into a over commercialized and money driven monster bent on squizing joe six pack for all he’s worth.

This beast has been given supernatural abilities by our only to wiling need to “keep up with the Joneses.” It has an uncanny capacity to build bank-draining vacuums that have no fill, which empty your pockets at candy, flower, jewelry and card shops around the world. It has gripped us.

The swine has the ability to turn a simple 5×7 piece of card that has no more than a dimes worth into a 5 dollar symbol of undying love with a couple of hearts and corny overplayed words. Not to mention its uncanny ability to inhance nature by turning a simple tipical 2 dollar rose into a 7 dollar investment.

It is an equal opportunity holiday entrapping couples and singles alike. For example, a couple shares a dinner at an eating establishment (Cha-Ching $$$), where he gives her a bouquet of roses (Cha-Ching$$$) and a box of chocolate (Cha-Ching$$$).

As they sip a bottle of their favorite wine, which they will finish in the private comfort of a hotel room(Cha-Ching$$$), they can’t help but notice the lonely single man type away on his laptop a table away frantically trying to find some one to spend his next valentines day with, on a personals website (Cha-Ching $$$).

See the day isn’t even over and it is already grooming suitors for next year.

Those who are unfortunate enough to find themselves alone for this day are tormented with the thought of another Valentines Day alone. How nice of the holiday to plague its non participant’s. Truly the holiday that keeps on giving.

I must admit this is the smartest holiday out there. The 4th of July may be up there with its main product (fireworks) being completely un-re useable and only lasting a few seconds relative to Valentines Day to the few seconds of pleasure in the bedroom that is part of the focus of many men involved in this holiday.

If you think about it, it is a remarkable holiday. No Christian holiday brings those of different beliefs and creeds together quite like this originally pagan holiday.

It’s days of young roman men picking women’s names from a box to have as their sexual partners for the rest of the year go unknown and unnoticed by many of its participants.

Alas a larger number of Valentines Day celebrators remember Saint Valentine and the sweet letter that he wrote to his loved one the day before his execution ordered by Emperor Claudius of Rome.

You’ve got to admit that the later is much sweeter than a bunch of horny teenagers salivating at the thought of a meat lottery in mid February when the day was celebrated to honor the pagan god Lupercus.

Being in a relationship my self, I must admit it is hard not to give in. It is like many social events and occasions in our society; your damned if you do and your damned if you don’t.

I will part with my money and buy all the things I have mentioned, but I am not doing it because I agree with it but because it’s the way it is. There’s really no way around it.

Is it reasonable to think that if we were all a little more thoughtful, a little more caring and considerate through out the year, the control that the industries in charge of Valentines Day have, would diminish to a point were the day can reclaim its lost charm, importance and purity.
