Learning Communities Program Orientation

Last Friday, Cerritos College Faculty Traci Ukita and Dora Macias facilitated a spring 2003 Welcome to a Learning Communities Program Orientation.

Students were introduced to Cerritos College Learning Communities instructors and all course programs that are provided into a Learning Communities course.

Such programs are one-on-one interaction with instructor and with other students.

Learning Communities courses are combined with a paired class in such areas as Calculus, Philosophy, Art History, ESL, English, Biology, Speech and online courses.

During the duration of the orientation, facilitated activities provide a source to Learn about Learning Communities.

A grand prize was awarded for the completion of all Cerritos College useful resources towards student success, new student Emilia Montoya said, “I felt lucky and special to win the prize, I’m glad I came, winning an electronic dictionary will be useful.”

Several prizes were awarded; those who won were awarded two movie tickets, candy and a Cerritos College mug. Barry Russel, Dean of Fine Arts and Communications, provided lunch.

Jazmin Acosta said, “A learning communities course is a place to make friends and I would recommend to my friends on taking a Learning Communities course, because of the good teaching techniques.”

Learning Communities courses provide students to appreciate Cerritos College Faculty and shows learning demands social interaction with classmates and the instructor.

“Connect ideas to involve yourself into the world of work with traits and concepts,” said Traci Ukita, Learning communities instructor.

Students’ attending Spring Orientation promoted to instructors how well they enjoy all their Learning Communities classes.
