Parking permit machines malfunctioning

Filled with frustration and anger, psychology student Melissa Baker, walked from the daily parking pass machine located in parking lot c-10 to the machine behind the soccer field, and still no parking permit.

Three yellow Park-Ur-Self meters are currently not working at all or not working properly and some of the 23, 580 Cerritos College students are having to drive or walk around looking for a working machine.

“I hate this, I came 15 minutes early to avoid parking problems and buying a stupid [daily] pass has taken over 10 minutes,” Baker said.

For students who have not yet purchased the semester parking permit, these machines are an important factor so they wont be surprised with a parking ticket.

Another student affected by the malfunctioning machines is Jacob Andrews, a political science major.

“I haven’t had the chance to go to admissions and buy the parking pass so I buy the daily passes or park in the meters,” Andrews said.

Like some students, Andrews has avoided buying the parking permit, according to the political science student, everyday he has to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than he normally would with a permanent parking pass.

Wayne Rector, campus police parking coordinator, said, “The machine on Falcon Way [behind the soccer field] is not working at the moment but a service man came and we’re currently waiting for the part to fix it.”

Rector also said that students would benefit from buying the semester parking permit if they come to school on a daily basis.

“The machines are mechanical and like all mechanical things they sometimes mess up,” he concluded.

The majority of students already purchased the semester parking permits.

Business student Michaela Santos said, “Why take a chance of getting a $25 ticket? Everyone should have a permit by now, they’re $20 and will avoid the hassles of looking for change, looking for a working machine and then for a place to park.”

To avoid all the hassles, frustrations and possibly a parking ticket you can also buy a semester permit from the campus police office.
