When it rains, it pours

When it rains, it pours

They said the rain was coming but it seemed there was nothing but sunny skies and 80-degree weather as far as the eye could see.

Until Monday night.

The much-needed showers began to pour down on So Cal area around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Jokingly, many weathercasters poked fun at the locals and what a damper the rain put in their plans.

Cerritos College students spent the first rain of the season adjusting to the change and attempting to keep warm.

“I wear a beanie and a jacket and drink coffee to keep warm,” said Walter Mendoza, business.

Like many students, he is walking quickly to his next class and trying to stay dry.

But he insists, “I love the rain.”

On one portion of campus, between the LA Building and Administration, the water was so deep, it was considered hazardous enough to put up large cones warning people who walked through there.

Students could be found walking around the small pond throughout the morning.

Though there did seem to be a substantial amount of water filling the ground, most students seemed concerned with the water falling from above.

Carmen Mejeiver, business administration, said, “I used my umbrella to keep dry.”

Others had an entirely different take on the rain.

“I think it was a good thing, especially with Valentines Day coming up,” said Henry Martinez, undecided major. “It puts you in the mood.”

Martinez is standing by a booth selling Valentines Grams. He glances at the booth, “I hope it rains Friday.”

Like the others, Martinez did go on to say that he had tried to keep dry.

“My big jacket didn’t work,” he said, “It’s not good to take a test when you’re all wet.”
