Star Placement Winners

Star Placement Winners

The Star Placement Program, known for their helpful job search for students here at Cerritos College, awarded three candidates Wednesday for their efforts in finding a job.

The award winners were: Patrick Isip, Carlos Lunquin and the grand prize went to Felix Rodriguez.

All awards given were from the help of such donations such as MonterTRAK.com, UPS, Bally Total Fitness, US Army, Follett’s Bookstore, and Trader Joe’s. Depending on how many donations the job placement center receives is how many baskets are given.

Since the program started, this is the first time they have awarded their students’ success in getting a job. Job Placement will be awarding students 3-4 times a year in a raffle. In order for students to participate all they have to do is tell them about their accomplishment in spotting a job and they will automatically be placed in a drawing along with 100 other students.

Felix T. Rodriguez, undecided and grand prize winner of the raffle says, “I use the workshops and come in for counseling for my benefit when looking for a job. I got three jobs out of this program so far. I think it would have taken me longer to find a job if it weren’t for the job placement program. It has definitely been a great experience for me.”

Not only does the Star Placement program help students find a job, but they also help them through several career development workshops. These workshops include resume writing skills, job search strategies, labor market trends, internship orientation and interview skills.

Job Placement also works closely with Monstertrak.com. Students can come to the Career Center looking for a job while posting their resume on MonsterTrak.com and finding other listings of job openings.

So how do students find out more about the program? Christina The, Student Placement Specialist in the Career Services Center says, “Student’s can come in and give us their name, number, and address and we’ll send them postcards about us. We also help them if they want to be in an internship program.”

Besides finding job listings and learning how to tackle an interview, they don’t stop there. Job placement also helps students all over campus by helping out with Job Fairs. Companies looking for employees come to these job fairs seeking employees while informing students what they are all about.

The next job fair according to Christina The is scheduled on Apr. 24 in the Student Center from 10-2pm. Students who may not want to be in the Job Placement Prgram but who are interested in finding work should attend this fair.

So what are you waiting for? Get a job now through the Star Placement Program because hey getting a job and maybe winning a prize isn’t that bad is it?
