What is this? 1812? I can’t believe that after all that women have achieved in this world, we are still rarely taken seriously. We have come a long way. And to find out that the strife that we have endured to gain respect still affects many, is disappointing. I know what the men reading this article are thinking. Right, just another girl complaining,’ or “uh oh, someone has PMS today.” Well, my response to this is so what? What if I am, and what if I do? Let me give you some examples of modern day sexism towards women, I’m more than sure, you’ll pick one out that relates to you or someone in your life. Girls, remember the prom? That oh so wonderful day that, gasp, “every girl dreams of?”Well do you also remember how your brother got to stay out all night, but you had to be home by 1 a.m.? Why is that fair?”Well honey, your brother can defend himeself if something bad happens.” Says who? I distinctly remember beating the crap out of him day after day for borrowing my cd’s. I’m stronger than him, so why can’t I beat the crap out of somebody else.Example two, when mom wanted you to try out for the Cheerleading squad. Why would you push your daughters to do something they didn’t want to do? How could you make your daughter think that it’s ok to act passive and stupid and prance around in skirts just to make all the football players drool. Parents should teach their daughters that ultimately, brains are what save you from being taken advantage of later in life. And I love it when I tell people that I’m a journalism major. ”Journalism? Isn’t that a little weird for a girl? Wouldn’t it be nice to be a nurse, or a flight attendant?’ Well, wouldn’t it be nice for me to figure out my life on my own without a sexist jerk like you trying to mold me into a 1950’s housewife? The fact is that the glass ceiling is still very much alive. Ever hear the song “Anything you can do I can do better?” That seems to be the number one motto for every living guy. Women don’t owe you a thing. We were suppressed for years, told that we couldn’t speak our hearts, and minds. We were told we weren’t supposed to go to college. College was for smart people, like men. And God know’s, we weren’t allowed to vote. Women choose the leaders of our country? How absurd. I have an idea, go home give your mom a hug, don’t explain, just tell her that you’re grateful for everything she does. I bet you she’ll smile. Why do you think that men want to keep women in the house? Because without her, their home wouldn’t be a home, it would merely be a house. Why do you think some women opt to stay there? Because we make your dinner, and if you piss us off, we can poison it.
