This years’ MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s), started with a poptastic, yet almost traumatic show from three pop divas; Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. These three, once again, succeeded at making us drop our jaws after Madonna shared a surprising kiss with Britney and Christina just like the one Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley “performed” in the 1994 MTV Awards. It was a great start to the 20th MTV Awards, which was full of red-hot performances by 50 Cent, Beyonce, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Metallica, Coldplay and Mary J. Blidge and let’s not forget that Chris Rock(ed) the house as well. Aside from all the glamour and post-melodrama, the awards hyped a cast of a broad non-conservative audience that ate all that MTV threw at them. Censorship is nearly in decay now, as many “forbidden” actions are now being exposed in front of this generation’s adolescent audience and its predecessors. From sheer lesbian kissing and near nude sexual acts; Britney Spears, Tatu, Pink and Lil’ Kim amongst others, are exposing us to such “forbidden acts” that were slightly concealed beforehand.And when push comes to shove, Madonna conjured & pioneered MTV to rather break that barrier in 1990 with her notorious video “Justify my love,” which was banned by many stations worldwide. Although after the infamous semi-French kiss, the MTV award show was completely and wholly predictable. It was funny and now and then painfully unfunny. However, the show did not tend to disappoint its audience for it was mildly entertaining. It proved that it had all the nuts and bolts of a captivating award show.
